Casa Sandoval

Amazon Basin

The friendly owners are proud that it took two years to construct this lodge, Lago Sandoval's newest, because the materials were brought in along a 3km trail then ferried across the lake. The result is pleasing: a convivial five-room lodge with a lovely dining and hammock area, run by a family who have known the lake their whole lives.

This lodge irons out a lot of the things that can rankle on jungle trips: it has single-language tours, very good quality boats and a mine of local knowledge. How about the unforgettable sight of giant otters cavorting in the water for a pre-breakfast treat?!
