La Casona Huaracina

Huaraz

The colonial architectural style is noticeably absent in Huaraz until you step into the sparkling new Huaracina, the clever designers of which have drawn inspiration from the graceful buildings of Arequipa. The business is split into three interconnecting spaces: a smart lounge bar, a pasteleria (pastry shop) and the restaurant, all decked out with astute attention to detail (glass lampshades, elaborate balustrades, bookshelves).

The detail extends to the Peruvian-biased food. This may be the place to summon for a plate of cuy picante (guinea pig), or grilled trout, or aji de gallina (chicken in a spicy cream sauce). Local craft beers are on tap.
