Villa Jennifer

Top choice

This peaceful tropical enclave is run by a Danish-Peruvian couple who have done wonders with a lush expanse of tropical bushland bounded by rivers on two sides. Suave rustic accommodations range from simple rooms with shared bathrooms to airy mini-homes that can sleep up to 10 people. Common to all is the relaxation space: terraces, sun beds, patios, gardens... paradise.

Listing the other highlights of a stay takes a while. You could spot monkeys capering through the treetops, play table tennis, darts or table soccer, or catch a movie in the DVD lounge. In the excellent restaurant (open 7:45am to 9pm), be sure to try the local fruit anonas (custard apples) which are delectable. There are also two swimming pools and mini-golf. Not to be missed is the 30-minute hike up to a mirador (lookout) on a sheer conical hill above the property. The lodge is located north of Tingo's airport.
