Central Hotel

Panama City

On the Plaza Independencia, the former Grand Hotel Central was Panama's first hotel when it opened in 1874. Its renovation was a massive undertaking years in the making, but the final results underwhelm. It does remain a busy hub for travelers with attentive service, but the rooms are small and cookie-cutter. On the plus side, it has a rooftop pool.
