This high-altitude hotel is pretty much the only option this high on the Hardangervidda – and luckily, it's lovely. There's a strong mountain vibe here, and the modern, tidy, well-insulated rooms have outrageous views over the lake and glacier. Parts of the lodge are actually built out of old trains.
It's right by the train station and is a great source of info for activities.Set meals, which are so full of flavour and imagination that they have to be ranked among Norway's finest eating experiences, are taken in a dining room with huge floor-to-ceiling windows and views over the Arctic landscape. Half-board rates are great value.
