An early 20th-century landmark, the Casa del Obrero (House of the Worker) honors Nicaraguan laborers. The building became a historical symbol on September 21, 1956, when the Leonese poet and journalist from León, Rigoberto López Pérez, shot President Somoza at a party inside this building and died immediately in a hail of bullets.
