Tussock Bar & Restaurant

Taupo & the Ruapehu Region

Other than the Chateau, Whakapapa’s only drinking hole (albeit owned by the Chateau) is this split-personality bar, styled like an Alpine lodge but with a corrugated-iron bar and booths, wagon wheels propped against the wall, and a large pull-down screen cranking out sport. But the welcome and the fireplace are warm, and there’s decent pub grub (mains $27 to $34).
