The former Duke of Edinburgh Hotel dates to at least the 1870s, although we strongly suspect it wasn't painted purple and green then. New owners have been busily renovating the rooms, which circle a central light well upstairs. The best have sharp contemporary decor and en-suite bathrooms. Downstairs there's a huge kitchen and a guest lounge with a roaring fire.
