Our pick when tackling the Alpine Crossing, the Park has neat, if small, double, king and family mezzanine rooms with photos of Tongariro by a local police officer decorating the walls. The two-night Crossing package ($398 for two people), including breakfast, track transfers and packed lunch, is great value and there are spa pools for a post-hike soak.
Spiral Restaurant & Bar (mains $20 to $30) is a decent place to eat.
