Nestled beside the Taramakau River, 63km southeast of Greymouth, is the tiny settlement of Jacksons. The exceptional holiday park here is a worthy stop along Arthur's Pass. Rugged views provide a backdrop for well-groomed campervan sites, tidy cabins (with shared bathrooms) and spacious self-contained apartments. There are undercover tents ($55) for a night under canvas without exposure to the elements.
There's a glowworm cave within rambling distance, too.
