Spotty opening hours are the only blight on this brightly painted caravan diner overlooking Jackson Bay. Cray Pot serves honest seafood, from big portions of fish and chips ($19) to crayfish tails with potato salad (from $65), as well as whitebait, green-lipped mussels and local blue cod, served with homegrown vegies and herbs.
Ask in Haast before you set out or check for a sign near the petrol station, which usually indicates whether Cray Pot is open or closed.
