Rangoon Tea House

Top choice in Yangon

This stylishly designed hipster teahouse is as popular with cashed-up locals as it is with travellers and expats – at peak meal times expect to wait for a table. It serves traditional Burmese cuisine, locally inspired cocktails, and curries and biryanis – all well done in bigger portions (hence the higher prices) and generally less oily than you'll get elsewhere.

All the usual teahouse snacks are available – tea-leaf salads, samosas, paratha (Indian-style bread) and bao – as well as hearty mains.

The drinks are equally good. If you just want a cup of tea, the menu has a handy chart showing the multitude of permutations from which Burmese like to choose. The cocktails are potent and start at K7900 but are half-price during the daily happy hour (4pm to 7pm).
