Bayt Alice

Top choice in Tangier

Designed by a French architect and named after her daughter, this medina hostel stands out from the pack. Over several floors in a pretty traditional home, the dorms and private rooms have eclectic decor, and staff are terrific. Moroccan breakfast is delish, with rich cheeses, olives and breads. Upstairs there's a terrace with panoramic views of the sea.

Wi-fi in the first-floor dorm is shoddy.
