Costel Hostel

Top choice in Moldova

Located in southwest Moldova just 12km from the Oancea/Cahul border crossing with Romania, this is a wonderful place to experience countryside living. Owner Constantin is a permaculture maverick who will be happy to cook you a traditional meal with ingredients sourced from his bountiful garden, and can offer advice on visiting the nearby Prutul de Jos (Lower Prut) Biosphere Reserve.

The hostel has a lovely sauna and Constantin hires out bicycles and offers area tours, including wine-making activities with local families during the September–October season.

Prutul de Jos was named a Unesco site in 2018, and Constantin's relatives in Slobozia Mare, about 40km south of Roşu, lead informal row-boat tours on the reserve's Lake Beleu.
