Behind its beautiful but unassuming facade, Casa Lecanda is a cut above Mérida's other boutique options thanks to attention to detail in both the design and the guest service. A 19th-century mansion stuffed with antiques and restored to stunning effect, it only has seven rooms, each decorated with a nod to traditional styles while including plentiful amenities and luxurious bathrooms.
The courtyard surrounds a small pool, which looked like it needed a bit of a refresh on our last visit, but there's a lovely shady area for hammocks and lush gardens. Continental breakfasts are served in the colonial-style dining room and an array of tequilas and Mexican wines can be sampled at the bar.
