La Fuente, set in the old Edison boiler room, is an institution in Guadalajara and a perfect example of what a proper Mexican cantina is (ie rough around the edges). It’s been here since 1921 and is mostly patronized by regulars who welcome newcomers like family. A bass, piano and violin trio sets up and jams from midafternoon until last call.
Look for the rusted bicycle above the bar, left by a patron in 1957 and never reclaimed. In fact, it's been there so long, tapatios often refer to the bar as La Bicicleta.
