Behind the stone walls of this hotel are a pool, lush gardens and plenty of private outdoor space. Some of the rooms are highly eccentric in style (the riding-themed Carriage House is one thing, while the pink bathroom tower in Lady Chatterley’s Lover has to be seen to be believed), but the hotel does attract return visitors.
This is where DH Lawrence wrote The Plumed Serpent in 1923, and Lawrence fans can even sleep in the room (for a pricey M$2400) where the author scribbled his text. Pity the welcome is not as warm as the decor here.
