Finca Argovia

Top choice in Chiapas

This gorgeous boutique hotel on a working coffee farm high in the cool, misty hills north of Tapachula offers comfortable wood-panelled rooms. Here, you can wile away hours in hammocks, count orchids in the jungle gardens, or go on informative coffee farm tours. And then there's the pool and spa and a lovely restaurant. The highlight is the delightful owner Bruno Giesemann and staff.

Finca Argovia follows permacultural practices with a twist. Everything, from coffee plants to shampoo ginger flowers, have been planted in the jungle to adhere to natural principles. Rates are cheaper outside of high season.

To get here, taxis cost around M$400. Alternatively, regular colectivos marked 'Saragosa' depart from Mercado San Juan (M$27, 1¼ hours). Alight at Nueva Alemania (five minutes from the finca; they will collect you).
