Chamicos

Riviera Maya

Fresh-caught fish and seafood done up in simple preparations right on the beach. You may not have white linen and fine china, but you can't ask for a nicer view, and the plastic chairs and tables are nicely shaded by palm trees. At the southern end of town.

They also have oceanfront campsites (per person M$100), which sit on a palm-shaded beach, and there are kayak rentals (per hour M$300). If you'd like to camp, you'll need to bring your own tent and insect repellent. If not, the beach makes a nice lunch stop.

The mangrove area behind Chamicos doubles as the local trash dump, with the benefit of coatimundi (a ring-tailed raccoon) visits and the downside that it gets really stinky in the summer heat.
