Los Dorados de Villa

Zacatecas

Unless you have a reservation you're unlikely to be allowed into this revolutionary-themed restaurant – and even with a reservation you'll need to knock at the permanently locked door. Once inside though it's a blast of color, chockablock with atmosphere. Culinary highlights includes an amazing selection of enchiladas and a fabulous caldillo durangueño (Durango beef stew).

The mezcal comes with a kick in the form of a real-life scorpion balanced atop your glass. Yes. Seriously.
