Easily one of Mexico's most atmospheric hotels, this 19th-century former treasury building has been wonderfully renovated with exposed stone walls and antique furnishings throughout. A massive old-fashioned key lets you into one of 11 rooms that are rich in the scent of polish on aged wood. Each is tastefully decorated with local crafts. Rates are lower outside high season.
In the evening cozy up around the open fireplace with a glass of wine in the delightful bar. There's a good in-house restaurant and staff can organize tours around the town.
