La Fregada Fonda

Western Central Highlands

A small, artful eatery, La Fregada brings the outside in with tropical plants, vine covered walls and a dining room that opens onto a lush hillside. The menu is classic Mexican: chilaquiles (fried tortillas with chicken, cream, and salsa), tostadas de nopal (cactus on tortilla shells), frijoles en caldo (bean soup)...even coffee with cinnamon sticks. Service is friendly but uneven.
