Woven into the jungle, Sekeping Serendah is a back-to-nature retreat with an appealing rough-luxe style. Accommodation is accessed by a boardwalk that spirals into the forest: glass cabins are suspended in the treetops, airy chalets mix industrial bare brick and ornate wooden screens, and open-air pools feel like a delicious secret. It's less than an hour's drive north of Kuala Lumpur.
The cabins are designed to feel open and connected to their surroundings and are deliberately kept basic. Showers are open air, and the sheds have plenty of entry points for creepy-crawlies; there are mosquito nets on the beds.
The 10-minute drive to the retreat from Serendah passes through several Orang Asli villages. Note that while Serendah town is reachable by train from KL, the retreat is not within walking distance of any shops or restaurants, so you'll need to bring supplies with you in a taxi from the station, or hire a vehicle.
