Jonker Walk Night Market

Melaka City

Food hawkers, trinket sellers and fortune-tellers line Jln Hang Jebat for Melaka City's weekly extravaganza of street food and shopping. The street closes to traffic, shops stay open late and a party atmosphere prevails. Graze on barbecued quail eggs and kuih (sticky-rice sweets) as you squeeze between souvenir and T-shirt stalls, pausing to watch the occasional Chinese karaoke performance.

The night market is unashamedly commercial and attracts huge crowds, but this riotously colourful experience shouldn't be missed. For snacks, look out for durian ice cream, durian cream puffs, Nyonya zongzi (sticky parcels of rice wrapped in vine leaves), sausage skewer kebabs and more.
