Maria Kek Lapis

Kuching

Sells over 40 varieties of kek lapis – a colourful layered cake made with wheat flour, egg, prodigious quantities of butter or margarine, and flavourings such as melon, blueberry or pandan leaves.

Since kek lapis are prepared one layer at a time and each layer – there can be 30 or more – takes five or six minutes to bake, a single cake can take up to five hours from start to finish.
