Domus Maria

Vilnius

Austere and occasionally spooky, the guesthouse of the Vilnius archdiocese is housed in a former 17th-century monastery. Rooms are plain but ample, history almost echoes along the long corridors, and the location at the foot of Old Town artery Aušros Vartų gatvė couldn't be better. Two rooms, 207 and 307, have views of the Gates of Dawn – book far in advance.

Breakfast is served in the vaulted refectory.
