Beirutis have strong, often divisive opinions about where to find the best in class of any food group, so it means all the more that Sahyoun is widely considered the best falafel in the city. Located on the stretch of road just east of Martyrs’ Square known informally as Falafel Alley (and right next to a rival falafel shop run by the owner’s estranged brother), Sahyoun is the most downhill of the restaurants. You may also identify it by a helpful sign in the window that reads ‘Original Shop No. 1.’
