Yubiningyō Shōkichi

Ueno & Yanesen

Mitsuaki Tsuyuki makes and sells his incredible hand puppets here – look for lifelike renditions of Japanese celebs and, natch, Elvis. Quick portraits drawn via one of his hand puppets cost ¥1000.

The waiting list for Mitsuaki to make a portrait puppet from your photograph is a year and it will set you back a cool ¥40,000.

For groups of three or more, Mitsuaki will put on a 30-minute puppet show (¥500 per person) at 30 minutes past the hour.
