Kaniyu Onsen

Nikkō

In the midst of mountains and rivers in the scenic Okukino region of 'secret onsen' is this rustic ryokan, a serene escape with milky sulphuric waters in its multiple outdoor baths. From Nikkō, take the Tōbu line to Shimo-imachi, change to a Kinugawa Onsen–bound train, then board the bus to Meoto-buchi, from where it's a 1½-hour hike.

Pick up from Meoto-buchi is available to ryokan guests but not day visitors. No cards accepted so be sure to have enough cash.
