Ryokan Matsumae

Nara

This welcoming little ryokan, conveniently located in Naramachi, has Japanese-style rooms with toilets (and some with bathroom). It's warm, homey and well maintained. A Japanese or Western breakfast is available for an additional ¥970.

You can also book one-hour calligraphy lessons (¥1000 per person) and, on most Mondays, catch a practice performance of kyōgen (traditional comic drama) in the ryokan's hall.
