Yumiya Komachi

Southern Higashiyama

In a hidden location a short walk from Gion, Yumiya Komachi is a delightful guesthouse run by friendly owner, Rico. The 100-year-old building is the former home of a dance teacher who taught geisha in Gion, and it offers Japanese-style rooms and one Western-style, all with shared bathroom. Curfew is 11.30pm.

It's a great choice for those wanting to stay somewhere traditional without spending a fortune on a ryokan, and a good-value option for solo travellers.
