Perched at the base of the Higashiyama mountains at the top of Maruyama-kōen, Yoshimizu is surrounded by greenery and it’s like staying in the countryside (but only 15 minutes’ walk to Gion). There is one room with Western-style beds for those uncomfortable sleeping on futons. Breakfast is included, and a few rooms look out over soothing maple leaves or bamboo groves.
The only drawback is that some rooms are divided by thin walls or doors, so you can hear your neighbours talk if they are not considerate.
