9 Hours Capsule Hotel

Downtown Kyoto

If George Lucas ever designed a hotel, it might look something like this. With its sci-fi all-white minimalist design, it's easy to imagine Storm Troopers climbing into the coffin-sized capsules and waiting for the built-in ambient light system to lull them to sleep. Just pray Chewbacca's not your neighbour as you can hear a pin drop in this place.

You'll be given a towel, toothbrush, PJs and a pillow resembling a concrete slab. Female and male capsules are on separate floors and there are small lockers; any bigger luggage will need to be kept at reception. Good for the experience but not a long-term stay.
