Mountambrin

Top choice in Negril & West Coast

Up in the hills, inland from Sav-la-Mar (the former estate of Alex Haley, author of Roots), is a unique boutique guesthouse, surrounded by 800 acres of lush grounds, aflit with hummingbirds. Mountambrin hosts occasional music evenings and doubles as a unique art gallery that displays the very phallic works of the resident painter and sculptor/carver. Follow signs east of Whithorn.

Two-night minimum stay for guests; alternatively, you can arrange to take a tour of the property (open from 9am to 10pm daily).

Friendly owner Canute can arrange meals and is happy to take guests on walking tours of the property (US$15). Mountambrin can be reached via Darliston-bound route taxis from Sav; ask to be dropped at the art gallery sign and walk up for one mile.
