At the east end of town there is an old limestone church marking the entrance to a charming, if sometimes under-tended, botanic garden established in 1779 to provide a relaxing spot for colonists visiting Bath's spa for health reasons. Many exotics introduced to Jamaica were first planted here, including the famous breadfruit brought from the South Pacific by Captain Bligh in 1793.
