Paolo Brandolisio

Venice

Beneath all the marble and gilt, Venice is a city of wood, long supported by its carpenters, caulkers, oar-makers and gilders. Master woodcarver Paolo Brandolisio continues the traditions, crafting the sinuous forcola (rowlock) that supports the gondolier's oar. Made of walnut or cherry wood, each is crafted specifically for boat and gondolier. Miniature replicas are on sale in the workroom.
