Foresteria del Monastero di San Girolamo

San Gimignano

This is a first-rate backpacker choice. Run by friendly Benedictine Vallumbrosan nuns, it has basic but comfortable and impeccably clean rooms sleeping two to four people in single beds; all have attached bathrooms. Parking costs €4 per night, breakfast costs €3 and there are two rooms set up for guests in wheelchairs (a rarity in town). Sadly, no wi-fi.

If you don't have a reservation, arrive between 9am and noon or between 3.30pm and 5.30pm and ring the monastery bell (the one closer to the town centre), rather than the Foresteria one, which is never answered.
