Il Paluffo

Chianti

Hidden in the hills 14km southwest of San Casciano, this clever conversion of a centuries-old olive farm has seen the former fermentation room transformed into a comfortable guest lounge, farm buildings into self-catering apartments, and upstairs rooms of the frescoed farm villa into elegant B&B rooms with modern bathrooms. Views from the terraces stretch as far as San Gimignano's towers.

Staff can arrange wine tasting and truffle hunting, while cookery courses cover everything from pasta making to Tuscan dinner parties. Add a luscious bio-filtered swimming pool, an honesty bar stacked with Tuscan wines and a delicious breakfast featuring organic local produce (included in B&B room cost, charge levied for apartment guests). There's a two-night minimum stay.
