Trattoria L'Altana

Northwestern Tuscany

Dining at this popular trattoria is akin to dining in someone's family home – that of Camilla, Angela and Giulia in this case, who cook up authentic homemade Tuscan fare (fantastic pasta!) in Barga old town. The back room, complete with wall mural of the valley, is winter-cosy and in summer the rooftop terrace is the place to be.

The casarecci (tube-shaped short pasta) with gorgonzola, speck and radicchio is utterly divine, as is the winter variation laced through with decadet black truffle shavings.
