La Bettola di Piero

Milan

With its red-and-white checked curtains hanging at the windows and twee, textbook trattoria interiors, you may fear this restaurant is a stereotype too far. That's until you sample the uncompromising home cooking: wild puntarelle (chicory) with an anchovy dipping sauce; bold yellow goose eggs with asparagus; and duck soused in figs and balsamic. It's just like Nonna used to make!
