Villa dei Papiri

Syracuse

Immersed in an Eden of orange groves and papyrus reeds 7km southwest of Syracuse, this lovely agriturismo sits next to the Fonte Ciana spring immortalised in Ovid's Metamorphosis. Eight suites are housed in a beautifully converted 19th-century farmhouse, with 16 double rooms dotted around the lush grounds. Breakfast is served in a baronial stone-walled hall.

There are plenty of other perks to keep guests in a holiday mood, including excursions to the Ciane river, bike rentals and an open-door policy towards pet dogs (€10 extra per night).
