Part of the larger alberghi diffusi (diffuse hotels) movement in the Carnic region, the Sauris network offers various apartments in a collection of refurbished village houses, all constructed in the unusual local vernacular style, with deep verandahs screened with horizontal slats. Breakfast arrives in a hamper and is composed of warm croissants, mountain honey, homemade yoghurt and, in summer, apricots.
Inside they are extremely cosy and well equipped: live a little Carnic fantasy life, sampling Zahre beer, catching up with the village gossip and stocking up on supplies, then head 'home' to light a fire and prepare a mountain feast. There are a few one-bedders for couples but most can sleep either four or six and are great value.
