For homemade biscuits, bite-sized meringues and fruit tarts large and small, there is no finer address in Rome than this vintage biscottificio with ceramic-tiled interior, fly-net door curtain and a set of old-fashioned scales on the counter to weigh biscuits (€17 to €25 per kilo). The shop has been run with much love and passion for several decades by the ever-dedicated Stefania.
The enormous yellow, 1960s oven filling half her shop is an astonishing 16m long – biscuits are slowly baked as they pass from one end to the other on a conveyor belt. She sells 50-odd different types in all, including her famous brutti ma buoni (ugly but good).
