They could serve mud-water in this cafe on Bergamo’s main square, so delightful is the setting. Notwithstanding, the drinks still taste just as good as they did in 1476 when this venerable establishment first opened its doors. Inside the ambience is classic old-school Italy with marble tables guarded by gossiping nonnas just back from a dye and set at the hairdressers.
Outside, it’s all tourists and pigeons and a backdrop of handsome medieval buildings to contemplate while you stir sugar into your cappuccino.
