Il Focolare

Top choice in Ischia

A good choice for those seeking a little turf instead of surf, this is one of the island’s best-loved restaurants. Family run, homely and rustic, it has a solidly traditional meat-based menu with steaks, lamb cutlets and specialities including coniglio all’Ischitana (typical local rabbit dish with tomatoes, garlic and herbs). On the sweet front, the desserts are homemade and exquisite.

Owner Riccardo D’Ambra (who runs the restaurant together with his wife, Loretta, and their children) is a leading local advocate of the Slow Food movement. If you want seafood, coffee or soft drinks, you'll have to go elsewhere; they're not on the menu here.
