Osteria di Guercinoro

Emilia-Romagna

Cinematically set in a 1300s grotto carved from a mountainside that still serves as the back wall, this wonderfully local osteria sits under the atmospheric Via del Borgo. The oft-changing menu is handwritten on what amounts to glorified notebook paper and it's a two-person show (he cooks, she serves, they both forage for their wild herbs) under cable-stayed lighting.

Delicate local specialities like fresh ricotta drizzled with award-winning Brisighella olive oil and tagliatelle with local Moretto artichokes are washed down gracefully with a plethora of local wines, some of which are organic. Cash only.
