You have to trust local knowledge at La Rotunda, a small, innocuous gelateria just off the main square that seems to be visited by half the town on weekend afternoons. Don't argue, just join the queue, place your order for a ridiculously cheap cone piled high with home-made ice cream and sit down on the scalinata (staircase) outside to enjoy it.
