Castle Murray

Top choice in Southwestern Donegal

Overlooking the ruins of the 15th-century McSwyne’s Castle, Castle Murray is not a castle, but a boutique hotel in a sprawling modern beach house. Most of the 10 guest rooms have fine sea views. Breakfast is a feast of homemade bread and locally sourced produce. It's 1.5km south of Dunkineely on a minor road leading to St John's Point.

The expansive lounge area and bar with views straight out to the water could tempt you to skip the sights and spend the day curled up on the sofa. Thursday to Saturday, from July to September, a dinner is available for residents.
