Bellinter House

County Meath

Dating from the 18th century, grande dame Bellinter House, 5km northwest of the Hill of Tara (signposted off the R147), is a haven of crackling open fires and rich artworks. There are 34 antique-furnished rooms in the main house, as well as 16 period rooms in the east and west pavilions and five duplexes in the former stables.

Soak in the on-site spa's outdoor hot tubs and dine on top-class fare at its evening-only restaurant Eden (three-course menu €110), which has its own bakery. Lunch is served in its Drawing Room restaurant (mains €15 to €27), where afternoon tea for two costs €50.
