Attractive village Ballingarry is home to one of County Limerick's hidden dining gems. Produce is picked fresh from this 19th-century former convent's orchards and kitchen gardens, and incorporated into seasonal dishes like wood pigeon with apple and parsnip puree and smoked pearl barley, or venison cooked with coffee and Szechuan pepper. Ballingarry is on the R519, 13km southwest of Adare.
To avoid having to move too far afterwards, book one of the lodge's elegant, country-style rooms, some with four-poster bed (double from €180).
